Pastor’s Corner – October 8, 2017
Yesterday we hosted the 3rd Annual Festival de la Grande Eglise, and we hope the weather cooperated and a good time was had by all. There are many thanks that we need to make, and there will be a special insert in the bulletin next weekend acknowledging those who helped to make the day possible. We especially thank our major sponsors, without whose support the day would never have gotten off the ground. Please patronize them if you are able:
American Bank and Trust Company
Dupre Carrier Godchaux
Friend of Fr. Lafleur
Gaiennie Lumber Company
Going, Sebastien, Fisher and Lebouf
Iggie Castille State Farm
Knights of Combus Council #1173
Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home
Lenard Bertrand General Contractors
Mama’s Fried Chicken
Sandoz Law Office
As usual, we will provide an accounting of the festival as soon as the numbers are available. Thanks again!!
Ben Pitre Ordination in Rome
All our pilgrims are back safe and sound from Rome after attending Ben Pitre’s ordination to the diaconate at St. Peter’s Basilica. We congratulate Ben and his family, especially his parents, Ben and Sue. We look forward to Ben’s priestly ordination and first Mass in June of 2018. Please be sure to keep him in your prayers.
Upcoming Special Activities for October
Just a reminder that October and November are months devoted to our appreciation of those who have gone before us into the next life. The Cemetery Tours will begin this weekend and continue through next weekend. Tours will be held Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The theme this year is “Leaders and Legends.” Proceeds are used to help maintain graves that have deteriorated over the years.
Our celebrations will culminate with All Saints Day on November 1st and All Souls Day on November 2nd. We will have our annual blessing of the cemetery on All Saints Day, Wednesday November 1 at 5pm. We will hold our annual Memorial Mass for those recently deceased on All Souls Day, Thursday, November 2nd at 6pm (All Souls Day), at which time we will remember some 50 or so of our brothers and sisters who departed this life over the last year. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us!!
October is also a month devoted to our Blessed Mother, the Mother of Consolation. We know of her many sorrows throughout her life, but especially in the suffering and death of her Son, Jesus. We also know of her consolation in Jesus’ Resurrection and her Assumption into heaven. We ask her for her intercessory prayer of consolation during this month for those mourning the death of a loved one. Special Marian prayers this month include a rosary each Monday at 5:15pm at the grotto sponsored by the Catholic Daughters. As usual, there will also be a rosary prayed at the Fr. Lafleur Monument at 6pm on Mondays. These rosaries make for a wonderful family activity. Please make plans to join us in prayer!
