Pastor’s Corner – October 1, 2017



Please make plans to come our third annual “Festival de la Grande Eglise,” which will be held next Saturday, October 7, 2017.  We are very excited about this year’s event after a very successful festival the last two years.  The festival is a celebration of our church and local community and their history, but it is also intended to be a fundraiser to help defray the costs of maintaining historic St. Landry Cemetery, which was built at a time when cemetery endowments did not exist (families generally cared for cemeteries and the tombs of their loved ones).  With over 4,000 tomb sites, maintenance is both difficult and expensive.  At the festival, not only is the local community invited, but we also reach out to all who have roots in our church community to “come home” and visit our beautiful and historic church and grounds.  If you know of anyone who might like to come, please be sure to let them know about the event and invite them.

As with any annual event, we hope to improve it each year, and this year is no different as some exciting changes will be made for this year’s event.  The festival will “kick-off” on Wednesday October 4th with an entertainment night at The Delta Grand featuring drinks, dinner, jazz entertainment and a silent auction.  October 7th we will have our festival day on our grounds which will include a color run, children’s area and petting zoo, a jambalaya cook-off, bingo, church and cemetery tours, concessions and a live band.  The day will conclude at the 4pm Vigil Mass with a Mass of Thanksgiving.  More details about the day’s schedule and events are in the insert contained in this bulletin, as is information about how to purchase tickets for the various events.  You can also find much of the information on the festival website, which is  As last weekend, tickets for the evening at the Delta Grand and the spaghetti dinners will be on sale at the church this weekend.  Please make plans to come as it should be a good day for our community to enjoy Christian fellowship, food and fun while at the same time helping support the maintenance of our cemetery.

We also want to that in advance our volunteers who have been planning this year’s festival and who will be many of the working volunteers Saturday.  We will acknowledge and thank the committee chairs and groups next weekend, but needless to say, without them this day would not be possible.


New Website is Up and Running!!

Please take a look at  Although it has taken longer than originally anticipated, our new website is up and running and we hope it will provide us good service in the years to come.  We further hope that it will be useful to you, as it contains a calendar for parish events, recent bulletins and blog postings, and eventually we will be posting recent homilies.  It also has many of the forms we use in printable form, hopefully making registrations and other matters more convenient.  Many thanks to Deacon Joubert and Bayouland Computer Solutions, LLC for their work to bring this project to completion.
