Pastor’s Corner – May 06, 2008
This weekend, we will conclude our celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation when our Confirmation candidates are Confirmed at the Sunday 5pm Mass. The Rev. Msgr. W. Curtis Mallet, the Vicar General of our diocese, will be the celebrant and homilist. With grateful hearts we welcome him to our parish for this celebration. This is a special time not only for our candidates and their families, but for our entire parish community.
The Confirmation class has been preparing since January for the reception of the sacrament, and we celebrate with joy their new status as fully initiated Catholics (meaning Catholics who have been baptized, received First Communion and have been Confirmed). We pray that they will cooperate with the graces received in the sacraments and will live Christian lives in imitation of Jesus as taught by His Church. Please remember the candidates in your prayers. Many thanks to Deacon Joubert, who led the formation program for our candidates, and Mrs. Nancy Briley, who assisted in the administration of the program. However, we especially remember and congratulate our newly Confirmed candidates and their parents and families! May God continue to let the light of His face shine upon them!
Volunteers Needed for Coffee and Donuts after 8am and 10am Mass
With the completion of Valentin Hall, it has been long overdue that we move our coffee and donut socials from the south sacristy of the church to the Valentin Hall kitchen. Attendance at coffee and donuts has increased to the point where the sacristy, on many Sundays, does not have enough space. That’s a good problem to have! Not only is there more room in Valentin Hall, but there is handicapped accessibility and a safer area for our children to play outside. With the move, we will be able to use the south sacristy more effectively for liturgical purposes.
Because of the move, we will need additional volunteers to help before and after the 8am and 10am Masses. If you are able, it would be greatly appreciated if you would help with setting up and serving. Please contact Fr. Brady at the office at 942-6552 if you are willing to volunteer. Thanks!
Parish Picnic – Many Thanks!
Many thanks to those who helped at our parish picnic last week. The weather was beautiful and we had a great crowd. It seemed fun and fraternity was had by all, and it was a great way for us to celebrate Easter and spend time together as a parish family. Besides the many volunteers who made the picnic possible, especially the coordinators, Dirk and Dee Boudreaux, we would like to thank also the following groups and businesses for their help and support:
B&D Marble and Granite
St. Landry Church Parish Advisory Board
St. Landry Church Finance Council
Knights of Columbus Council 1173
St. Landry Altar Society
