Pastor’s Corner – February 4, 2018

World Day of the Sick
February 11, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, is designated as World Day of the Sick. The focus of this remembrance is prayer for healing and recognizing the value of redemptive suffering. In conjunction with this day, we will offer Annointing of the Sick at the Saturday 4pm Mass on February 17, 2018 for those who suffer from a serious illness or are infirmed due to age. Guidelines for reception of the sacrament will be published next weekend.  If you or someone you know would like to receive the Sacrament of Annointing of the Sick, please make plans to come to this Mass. If one is unable to walk up to Communion at regular Masses, then they should sit in the pews marked and reserved at the front of the church so that they can be anointed along the front row pews.
This is a wonderful way for us as a community to support and pray for those who suffer from illness or labor under the burden of years, and for them to receive the Grace of strength to bear their burden for the purpose of salvation of the world and the hope of eternal life.
Centennial Celebration/Parish Directory
As I mentioned last weekend, we are celebrating our centennial year as a diocese, and there will be many celebrations and events throughout the year.  Our parish is hosting a regional Mass on March 23, so please mark your calendars for that evening.  In addition, it has been 10 years since our parish has published a parish directory, and in conjunction with the Parish Advisory Board, we have decided to make the directory project a part of our St. Landry celebration.  The company we have selected to do the directory is LifeTouch, and I am both happy and grateful to Bea Beaugh for her willingness to coordinate the directory project from our side.  She will be ably assisted by Yvonne Normand, Sharon Ortego and Dirk Boudreaux, to whom we also owe our gratitude.
An accurate parish directory is something that has been long overdue considering the changes our parish has undergone over the last 10 years, and I hope all are willing to participate in making the project a success.
In that regard, we hope that each family will schedule their pictures to be taken for the directory.  The following dates have been scheduled with the photographers:
March 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2018     2pm to 9pm
March 17, 2018                          10am to 5pm
March 22 and 23, 2018                2pm to 9pm
March 24, 2018                          10am to 5pm
There will be volunteers after each Mass this weekend and they will be happy to help you schedule.  In addition, you can schedule your pictures online at https://booknow-lifetouch.appointment-plus.com/y9y4rv63/.  This link will also be posted to our website, www.stlandrycatholicchurch.org
In the interest of full disclosure and transparency, you will have an opportunity to purchase them the portraits for your family.  However, you are under no obligation to purchase the portrait, and St. Landry does not profit if you choose to purchase the portrait nor incur additional expense if you do not.
Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation in making this project a success!
ACTS Retreat
As you all know, I was able to attend an ACTS Retreat (ACTS stands for “Adoration, Community, Theology, Service”) late last year, and am happy to announce that we have been accepted into the program as a parish. ACTS is designed as a renewal for Catholic lay people to help them deepen their discipleship in Christ within their church parish community. Many of you are familiar with ACTS, and some have expressed interest or already made the retreat. Although details are not finally worked out, we have committed to the program as a parish community and ACTS has agreed to the general time frame of assembling our core team over the first half of this year, preparing the core team during the second half of the year, and to begin our retreats in January of 2019.
This is a very exciting event for our parish, and I believe it will help us all to develop a deeper sense of discipleship and service in our lives. I will be meeting with the ACTS representatives in the near future and will keep you informed of further developments.
